Kearney businesses are planting new roots in the town center

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) – Whether it’s a new location or just a young, vibrant neighborhood, some Kearney businesses are turning to The Bricks to put down roots.

Contour Med + Aesthetics is one of the newest downtown businesses on the bricks. Having moved in last February, owner Rylee Horsley said it’s not just the downtown location she loves, but the support from other downtown businesses that’s also special.

“I just feel like downtown is such a community. That’s what I love about Kearney and there’s such a sense of community in the downtown space,” she said.

When a business moves into their premises, they are not only settling in, but they are also encouraged to take ownership of the space. Businesses can use grants such as the Downtown Revitalization Grant to help preserve the natural charm of buildings. This is another element of the city center that attracts.

Horsley has put his own unique twist on the 136-year-old building on North Railroad Street.

“The momentum of interest within the space has been really positive,” Horsley said. “So it was really fun to bring people here. Just giving it new life was probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever been a part of.

Horsley’s business isn’t the only one enjoying what The Bricks has to offer, with art galleries, boutiques and other unique shops continuing to fill the town centre.
