PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) – New life and new styles are coming to downtown Peoria.
In a stretch of Main Street where small businesses have been shuttered by the pandemic, Jamar Hardin is looking to make a difference.
“I felt like it would be the perfect time to do it,” Hardin said.
On January 15, he opened his second hair salon in the city, Pure Oasis Hair and Beauty Salon.
“I feel like there were a lot of opportunities that [were] getting ready to get here. And I felt like some spots here were kind of open. And I was like, I want to try it out and see what happens here,” Hardin said.
As owner of Pure Oasis and Major League Barbershop on North Dries Lane, Hardin is growing his hair empire.
“We were growing so much with the Major League, I was like, ‘Man, we have to keep going,'” he said.
Not only is Hardin expanding its locations, but it’s also expanding its services and looking to bring in local talent.
“I want to give everything. You know, you want to get your nails done, your hair done, a beautician, so maybe get your eyelashes done, your eyebrows done. Anything. Everything,” he said.
As for what’s next, the thriving barbershop isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
“I want to open another hair salon,” Hardin laughed. “I don’t know where, maybe somewhere near like Bloomington or Galesburg or something. But maybe even lower. It’s a bit cold here.
Pure Oasis Hair & Beauty Salon is located at 315 Main Street, Peoria.
