Press release: Downtown District BIA wins awards

On Monday, September 27, the downtown Belleville neighborhood received two prestigious awards at the 2021 Business Improvement Zones (BIA) Awards hosted by the Ontario BIA Association (OBIAA) at their annual gala in Hamilton, Ontario.

Recognition was awarded for:

Special Events and Promotions – Large: The neighborhood Enchanted holiday market an example of innovation and creativity. The judges loved seeing the fun creative ideas that engaged the community with downtown – during a busy time of year it was a beautiful celebration and collaboration with downtown businesses.

Marketing and Communication – Large: The neighborhood Rebranding of downtown Belleville exemplified innovation and creativity by working with local businesses They Integrated, to create and implement a refreshing new brand for downtown Belleville.

It was a real honor to be recognized with two prestigious OBIAA awards at this year’s gala, ”said Kathryn Brown, Chair of the Belleville Downtown Improvement Zone Board of Directors. “Recipients are selected by our peers from over 300 BIAs across Ontario, so it is especially gratifying to be chosen, knowing how hard each BIA has worked throughout the pandemic. Kudos to all of our downtown members, our Board of Directors, and most importantly, our hardworking BIA staff, who have proven that with the spirit of collaboration we can accomplish great things together.

We are very proud to hear this provincial recognition for our wonderful downtown neighborhood, ”added Mayor Mitch Panciuk. “Thanks to your efforts, we, as a community, are enjoying our downtown in engaging and creative ways – for young and old alike. Congratulations and thank you for your fresh ideas which bring so much fun to our community.

The OBIAA BIA conference is an exclusive educational training opportunity focused solely on the management of BIA. The conference is an invaluable opportunity for learning, sharing and networking for BIA staff, boards of directors, municipal and provincial staff and elected officials.
