ROANOKE, Va. – Sunday’s flooding closed impassable roads and even closed schools in Nelson County on Monday.

As Monday approaches, our slow front will continue to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms. The greatest coverage from these storms will be near and east of the Blue Ridge Parkway from approximately noon to 6 p.m.

Before that, temperatures hit the upper 70s and the 80s – warmer than Sunday thanks to a lack of widespread morning rain.

Maximum temperature forecast for Monday 08/22/22

Once a front has passed, you expect it to cool down, right? Not so fast!

We will become warmer on Tuesday with highs near 85 to 90° outside the mountains. It will probably be the hottest day we have had in almost two weeks!

Our old front then camps to the south, providing a boundary for future storm systems. This will likely lead to an increased risk of storms Friday through Sunday.

What we’re tracking later this week

We’ll be watching this closely for the start of the high school football season on Friday night and for WingFest in downtown Roanoke on Saturday.
